GhOne TV Journalist Alice Aryeetey Nominated For Disability Award

GHOne News’ award-winning journalist, Alice Aryeetey, has been nominated to receive the award for Best Media Advocate for Disability for the year.

Her station GHOne TV has been shortlisted for the Best Disability Reporting Station of the year at the Ghana Disability Excellence Awards.

The event would he held annually to recognize the outstanding achievements and works of individuals, organizations, services, initiatives of disability and disability support workers who have over the years provided a high standard of support to increase the quality of life and inclusion of persons with disability.

The maiden edition is slated for Saturday, 28th November, 2019 at the plush Tang Palace Hotel in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

Miss Aryeetey’s works have over the past eight years been focused on the development and upholding of the rights of all persons with disability, through several insightful reports. Her reports on the lapses in Ghana’s inclusive education policy, the sexual and reproductive health and rights of persons with disability, and a heartbreaking story of a Raped 44-year old blind woman who got impregnated and infected with HIV, caught the attention of the panel of the awards scheme, which included the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations (GFD) and the Ghana Council for Persons with Disability, under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

GHOne TV, on the other hand was selected for its continuous support and advocacy for development of persons with disability through its news and current affairs programs.

Ms. Aryeetey, with an interest in reporting on social and developmental issues, was last year (2018) adjudged the Most Promising Young Journalist of the year by the Ghana Journalists Association and was shortlisted among 12 young journalists across the world for the sixth Thomson foundation young journalist award as part of the annual prestigious Foreign Press Association (FPA) Media Awards.

She has also won four other GJA awards, out of which three were for Best in Disability Reporting in Ghana and Best TV report on Education, between 2015 and 2018.

Ms. Aryeetey holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from the Ghana Institute of Journalism and has been with the EIB Network’s GHOne TV since 2016.
