Bono Regional Minister Pays A Working Visit To Berekum

The Regional Minister for the Bono Region, Mad. Amma Kumi Richardson has paid a day’s working visit to the Berekum East Municipality.

The visit was to interact with management and staff of the Ghana Health Service and the Ghana Education Service in the Municipality.

In his welcome address, the Berekum East Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Kofi Adjei said the visit by the regional Minister was the second in the series since she became the Minister for the region.

He stated that, during her first visit, she inspected on-going projects in the Municipality and paid a courtesy call on the Berekum Traditional Council.

He concluded that the challenges facing education and healthcare delivery in the Municipality be laid bare before the minister so that she could work towards addressing them.

Briefing the regional Minister and her entourage on the education sector in the Municipality, the Berekum East Municipal Director of Education, Mad. Grace Ivy Ameyaw revealed that the standard of education in the Municipality as commendable both at the basic and Senior High School levels adding that the Municipality came first in the then Brong Ahafo region and tenth in Ghana in the 2017/2018 Basic Education Certificate rankings.

The education Director further state that her outfit has rolled out series of activities to enhance effective teaching and learning in schools including monitoring, organization of quizzes and debate competitions, training of teachers at the basic level all aimed at maintaining high performance in the municipality.

She commended the Berekum East Municipal Assembly for their continuous support for education in the Municipality.

On challenges, the education Director mentioned inadequate teaching and learning materials at the basic level, absence of vehicles to ensure effective monitoring and supervision, lack of accommodation for teachers in the rural areas and the deplorable state of the offices of the education directorate.

On health, the Municipal Director of health services, Mr. Duut. Bedina Esq. and other staff mentioned poor state of delivery bed, accommodation for staff, and lack of ambulance amongst others as challenges facing healthcare delivery in the Municipality.

In her response, the Bono Regional Minister, Mad. Amma Kumi Richardson assured the education and health directorates of government determination to address their challenges to ensure quality service delivery. She commended staff for their hard work albeit the challenges.

The minister was accompanied by the Regional Education Director, a Deputy Regional Director of health in charge of clinical care as well as staff of Bono regional Coordinating Council.
