The Senior Minister Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo will today, Saturday, September 14, join the Chiefs and people of Axim Traditional Council of Nzema East Municipality in the Western Region to climax this year's Kundum festival celebration in a grand style.
The festival which is celebrated by the chiefs and people of Ahanta and Nzema in Western Region, is an occasion to offer thanksgiving to God for abundance of food at the end of the harvest period.
The week-long celebration, which commenced Sunday, September 8, 2019 will be climaxed today at Axim Victoria Park.
This year's Lundum is being marked with so many activities including soccer competition, health screening, a clean-up exercise, girl-child education among others.
The grand durbar will give an opportunity to all Chiefs, Queen Mothers, high profile Politicians, Religious Leaders, and others in the Municipality to showcase their rich culture and heritage.
The theme for this year’s celebration is "Promoting Culture" which aims at raising funds for a memorable project in the area.
Speaking to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Hon. Frank Okpenyen ahead of the climax of the event, he said the coming of the Senior Minister to witness the celebration would promote tourism activities in the area.
He disclosed that last year's celebration for instance brought the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to the area, which yielded positive results in terms development projects for the area.
He said through that, the government is constructing Axim Sea Defence Wall, Ceremonial Grounds at Axim, Axim township roads among others.
He therefore seized the opportunity to urge his people to be discipline and maintain calm during the period of the festival.
The Senior Minister, the MCE confirmed will use the opportunity provided to visit the Axim Sea Defence Wall which is under construction.
He will also interact with the workers there, after which, he will storm the durbar grounds, according to the MCE.
"He will also use the occasion to explain Government's policies to the people," he added.
The durbar is expected to commence at 3pm at the forecourt of the Saint Antonio Fort.
Artists such as; Stonebwoy, D-Black, Kwaw Kese, Medikal, Kofi Kinaata, Sefa, Fameye, Nero X, Ms Forson, Don Kwoli, Bisa Kdei, Patapaa among others, have been billed to perform live at a Mega Jam on Saturday evening to entertain visitors.
The Mega Jam will be followed by a massive Pool Party Jam at the Axim Beach Resort on Sunday, September 15.
DJ Breezy and DJ Que will man the turntables for both events.
This year’s jams, powered by Livewire Events, are under the auspices of Hon Catherine Afeku, Minister of State and Member of Parliament for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira and Hon Frank Okpeyen, MCE Nzema East.
The Senior Minister is expected to be accompanied by some government officials and some key members of the govering New Patriotic Party (NPP) including; Western Regional Minister, Hon. Kobby Okyere Darko-Mensah, Deputy Western Regional Minister, Hon. Gifty Eugenia Kusi, Western Regional Chairman of NPP, Francis Ndede Siah among others.
