“Tullow's commitment is to ensure that our operations positively impact the oil and gas value chain in Ghana and that we have a positive impact on the wellbeing of the communities in which we operate. It is this ideal, this philosophy that is embedded in our principle of shared prosperity and we are proudly handing over the Airport Apron today to benefit the people of Ghana.

Tullow and our partners have benefitted hugely from the Airport Apron but the success of this investment does not just depend on flying in and out of Takoradi. It also depends on ensuring that all our people and communities in which we operate, return home safe and well at the end of every working day. It is the expectation of Tullow and the Partners that the handing over of the Apron will herald an improved phase of quality aviation services in Ghana,” he said.

The Minister of Aviation, Kofi Adah, commissioning the reconstructed Takoradi Airforce Base Tarmac commended Tullow and its partners for their contribution to improving development in Western Region and the aviation industry.

“The Ministry of Aviation lauds Tullow and the partners for recognising a critical need in the aviation infrastructure here at the Takoradi airport and providing a refurbished apron (Tarmac) that will not only support larger commercial airplanes, but will accommodate increased number of flights into and from Takoradi, whilst also guaranteeing the safety of the traveling public. All these construction works also create jobs for local contractors.

I hope that other Companies will emulate the example of Tullow and the Partners by focusing on the local content component of such projects to build capacity among Ghanaian companies in whatever sector they find themselves.” he said.

The Takoradi Airforce Base Commander, Group Captain Eric Agyin Frimpong , said the eleven years of hosting Tullow offices and providing the aviation platform for the partners' offshore operations has been mutually beneficial and part of its short-term strategy.
