The report was presented to the General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, for onward submission to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party for ratification.
The submission of the report is in line with the NPP’s guidelines and modalities for the conduct of this Party’s parliamentary primaries for “orphan constituencies”, scheduled for September 28.
The presentation of the Committee’s report, was witnessed by the National Chairman, Freddie Blay, at the Party Headquarters.
Chairman of the Appeals Committee, Peter Mac Manu, told the Party’s hierarchy that the committee did a thorough work on the various petitions and appeals they had received from some disqualified aspiring parliamentary candidates in order to adequately dispense justice.
On his part, the NPP General Secretary thanked members of the Committee for their invaluable service to the party.
It would be recalled that, the NPP, on August 21, inaugurated a 9-menber National Parliamentary Appeals Committee comprising Peter Mac Manu, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Elizabeth Ohene, Cecilia Dapaah, Emmanuel Darko, Gary Nimako, Joyce Opoku Boateng and Evans Nimako.
The Committee’s mandate was to receive and resolve appeals emanating from work of the National Parliamentary Vetting Committee from the various regions.
Out of a total of 292 aspiring parliamentary candidates who filed their nominations, 278 aspirants were cleared by the Vetting Committee and the National Parliamentary Appeals Committee to contest in the primaries whereas 18 aspirants were disqualified while decision on some two aspirants has been deferred to NEC.
The number of female aspirants stands at 29, and unopposed aspiring parliamentary candidates were 15.
The submission of the report of the Appeals Committee paves way for the party to hold a NEC meeting, today, September 12, 2019, to ratify the report subject to necessary modifications.
NEC will also set the date and approve the guidelines and modalities for the conduct of the Party’s primaries in constituencies where the party has sitting MPs.
