Anlo Awoamefia Dispute: Kingmakers Condemn Akufo-Addo For Condoning An Illegality

The Adzorvia Council of Elders, the highest decision-making body of the three lineages that constitute the Adzorvia Royal House of Nyaxoenu, in a press release condemn unequivocally President Akufo-Addo for appointing 'the imposter parading himself as Torgbui Sri III', as the sole mediator in the chieftaincy dispute in Bimbila.

According to them, the so-called Torgbui Sri III is a serial contemnor who has been "found guilty of contempt at the High Court in 26th of November, 2003. This ruling was upheld in a unanimous decision on April 1, 2005, by three Justices of the Appeal Court, namely Mrs. Vida Akoto Bamfo, A. Asare, and J. A. Osei.

The Council of Elders contend that it is ironical on the part of the President to appoint Mr. Patrick Komla Agboba, who lacks integrity, to be the arbitrator in a chieftaincy conflict while he is embroiled in one himself. This is because "In spite of being found guilty once, like a serial offender, he offended again leading to Suit No. AP88/2011, which entailed his Second Committal Proceedings with 11 others at the Accra Fast Track High Court for contempt with regards to his illegal, purported outdooring - a case that commenced in 2011 and has been rescheduled for hearing on 23rd October 2019.”

The Council also bemoaned the seemingly deliberate attempts and delays in finding an amicable resolution to the protracted Awoamefia cases at the Judicial Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs which is in its 19th year and the contempt proceedings at the Fast Track High Court in Accra, spanning eight years. They also did not absolve previous governments from blame. In the strongly-worded press release, they warned political elements from within and without Anlo to desist from meddling in the Awoamefia affairs while they prepare to install a rightful heir.
