NAGRAT-Volta Threatens Over Illegal Deduction

Over 500 members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) in the Volta Region have alleged the association is making illegal deductions from their salaries without their consent.

In a press release by the Kpando Technical Institute Local Chapter of the association on 29th August, 2019, aggrieved members are cautioning leadership of the association in the region to desist from such act and refund all monies deducted illegally.

The aggrieved members have also outlined pressing issues facing them in the region such as non-upgrading of salaries to corresponding ranks of teachers and members who paid for lands sold by NAGRAT-VOLTA and are yet to take possessions of the said lands for close to 6 years.

They are calling on other members of the association in the region to rise with them to condemn this act by Regional Leadership because it is illegal and barbaric.

These allegations come after NAGRAT recently kicked against a Ghana Education Service SIC Life insurance policy that saw the deduction of GHC 10 from salaries of all public school teachers.

NAGRAT had earlier threatened to embark on strike over the GHC10 compulsory deduction.

In 2018, teachers in public basic and second cycle institutions across the country complained about a deduction of GHC10.00 from their salaries through Controller ad Accountant Generals Department for the insurance policy.

This is the second time GES has temporarily suspended its insurance policy with SIC for public school teachers across the country.
