Assembly members in the New Juaben north municipality of the Eastern region have received 30 motorbikes as part of remuneration to assist them in their work.
They have, however, been tasked to make good use of the motorbikes and ensure they are used for the intended purpose to benefit the Assembly.
Presiding Member for the Assembly, Dr. Edward Asante, receiving the keys to the motorbikes, advised members to respect road traffic regulations and defray from actions that could be a threat to their safety at all times as the Assembly cannot afford to lose anyone.
He indicated the Assembly has done all the necessary documentation on the motorbikes so as not to burden Assembly members with any extra cost.
“Now that you have these motorbikes, I hope no one will absent him/herself from Assembly sitting with an excuse of transportation challenges. Let’s all make good use of the motorbikes to benefit the Assembly” Dr. Asante stressed.
On her part, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Assembly, Miss Comfort Asante, who presented the keys was of the view; the motorbikes would go a long way to assist members as most are from deprived areas with accessibility of transportation a challenge.
She added, the Assembly will continue to support the welfare of members and ensure they also contribute their quota to the development of the municipality.
Meanwhile, some Assembly members who spoke to Bryt FM news commended the MCE and the Member of Parliament (MP), Nana Adjei Boateng who doubles as the Deputy Local Government and Rural Development mister, for their immense support of members’ welfare.
The motorbikes were procured by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to ease the stress of Assembly members across the country across the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies in the country.
