Wendy Shay has revealed, she has grown to become the breadwinner of her family after losing her father at age two.
The singer who was trolled after her controversial interview on TV Africa, disclosed her childhood was challenging hence her appreciation for the feat music has given her.
“Most people do not know my upbringing, most people do not know how I started, for me as a 23-year-old girl, to afford the things I can afford now it’s a huge thing for me,” Wendy Shay told JoyNews’ MzGee.
The ‘Astalavista’ singer disclosed that her mother was only 17 when her dad passed. She struggled to fend for her and her three siblings without help.
“I lost my dad at the age of two and a half and literally my family members took everything from my Mum, the house and car that he left behind so my Mum had to start everything over; it was very tough,” she revealed.
Wendy Shay stated that she had to come in as a financier along the line to salvage situations.
“Everything that goes on in decision making [in] my nuclear family, I have a say. So that means when I work I need to put something on the table. People think that when you live in Germany you have money but it is not so.”
“So me being the firstborn and also playing a role as a father, a partner to my Mum, we work hand in hand, we work equally because my Mum is very young,” she added.
