Sekondi, Feb. 14, GNA - A Sekondi District Magistrate's Court on Monday imposed a fine of 500,000 cedis each on 11 hawkers for selling their wares on the pavement of Takoradi Central Market. They pleaded guilty and would go to jail for three months in hard labour if they failed to pay the fine.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Sam Tsiquaye of the Metropolitan Guards said Metropolitan Guards arrested the hawkers, while selling on the pavements without lawful justification or excuse. He said the hawkers obstructed the movement of pedestrians on the pavements.

Inspector Tsiquaye said they acted in contravention of the byelaws of the Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA).
