The Open Forum Agricultural Biotechnology Media Awards (OMA) is here again. The OFAB Media Awards which started in July 2017 with its first edition is organizing its 3rd edition in September 2019 and has opened entries for eligible media professions to compete for the covetous media award for the year 2019.

OFAB, an initiative of African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), is a platform that provides an opportunity enhance knowledge-sharing and awareness on agricultural biotechnology that will raise understanding and appreciation of the technology and contribute to building an enabling environment for informed and timely decision making. OFAB Ghana engages with various stakeholders during conferences, workshops, and stakeholder meetings, key among them journalist, to bridge the gap between scientists on the one hand and policymakers as well as the public on the other.

Agriculture, science and technology being an integral part of Ghana’s development agenda, OFAB believes journalist as key players in achieving these must be acknowledged for their contribution. OFAB encourages the journalist to cover more agriculture and biotechnology stories in bringing development to the front burner of national discourse.

The award aims at recognizing exemplary journalism that stimulates best practices in the adoption of agricultural technologies;, particularly agricultural biotechnology. The awards this year is in three (3) categories for the Agricultural/Biotechnology journalist of the year

Print and Online (Newspapers, Magazine & Online, etc.)

Television

Journalist submitting their stories should include the following:

I. A brief synopsis (about 150 words) of the stories submitted (Max 3 stories for each category)

II. About 150-word professional biography

III. A brief 200-word piece explaining the motivation for each story submitted

IV. Digital passport size photo and

V. A copy of national ID/Passport.

VI. Evidence of Media Accreditation/Membership of a National Media Association.

The OFAB secretariat has said Key considerations for choosing OMAs winners will be: scientific accuracy in reporting biotech-related stories, initiative, originality, clarity of interpretation and value in fostering a better public understanding of Agricultural Biotechnology and its impact.

Amazing prizes are up for grabs with the opportunity to represent Ghana at OMA Africa for more mouthwatering prizes.

Publications from the period 30th July, 2018 to 26th June, 2019 are eligible for entry.
