The Chiefs and elders of Ngleshi Amanfro say this year’s Homowo festival will not be held ransom by the long-standing dispute between Nii Akramah Mensah, and Nii Kweshie Gborlor IV, the Chief of Ngleshi Amanfro.

This year, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Snr, father of dancehall artiste Shatta Wale and the chief of Ngleshie Amanfrom nearly clashed over who the legitimate chief is.

A sub-chief of the Ngleshi Amanfro Traditional area, Odotobli Nii Kwame Yedu II, told Citi News discussions are ongoing between the two feuding factions to ensure a peaceful celebration.

“We are allaying each and everyone’s fear that this year if you think that you’re coming to Amanfro maybe something will happen, never. Because we have informed the police and they have assured us of maximum security.”

The chiefs and elders in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region say there will be heavy security presence to curtail any violent acts during the celebration.

Background

In June , a faction of Nii Kwashie Gborlor IV, Chief of Ngleshie Amanfrom clashed with a faction of Charles Nii Akramah Mensah, who was set to launch the Shatta movement fan club but a feud between the substantive Chief, Nii Kwashie Gborlor IV and Wale’s father who is said to be carrying himself as the chief of the area marred the event.
