NABCO Commences National Property Address Tagging Project

Chief Executive Officer of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), Dr. Anyars Ibrahim has revealed that as part of Government’s initiative to address graduate unemployment to solve most social problems; it has deployed over 12,750 personnel to undertake the National Property Address Tagging Project across the country.

According to him, the project will increase access to Ambulance Services, Emergency Health Care, and Effective Security Services as well as increase Revenue Mobilization among others.

Addressing the media at the launch of the National Property Address Tagging Project, Dr. Anyars Ibrahim said “Vice President Bawumia who met with stakeholders on January 9th this year discussed the projected the Ministry of Special Development and Initiatives’ (MSDI) tabled and suggested that all immovable properties in the country are tagged with an address plate by December 2019.”

In 2011, Government issued a street naming and property addressing policy to guide Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs). Government further instructed that all streets across the country get named within 18 months in 2013. The policy and directive referenced above were anchored on the Local government Act 1993 (Act 936); the National Development Planning Commission Act 1994 (Act 479); the National Development Planning (Systems) Act 1994 (Act 480); the National Building Regulation Act 1996 (LI 1630); the Land Use and Spatial Planning 2016 (Act 925) and the National Building Regulation Act.

“The address plates will display the number of the property, the street name and the Ghana Post Digital Address of the property. The Stakeholders agreed that the project must be centrally managed by the Nation Builder’s Corps secretariat with the support of a coordinating committee that will consist of representatives from Ghana Post, MDSI, Ministry of Communication, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLG&RD), Ministry of Information (MOI), Lands Commission, Land Use and Spatial Planning (LU&SP)then Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

Dr Ibrahim hinted that although the MLG&RD through the MMDAs are expected to provide property numbers and street names from its Geographic Information Systems (GIS); the Ghana Statistical Service will also make available the Agric Census GIS Data; while NABCO graduates will work closely with the District Assemblies to generate the respective digital addresses then tag homes at no direct cost to the household.

He said “Following the kick-off meeting of this project on July 12, 2019; the stakeholders agreed to launch this project on August 8, 2019, and the Vice President directed that we send a letter to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development with the roles and responsibilities of the key team members of the Address Plate Project."

It is emerging that the 12,750 personnel are expected to gather data of over4,00,00 houses across the country on the Street Naming and Property Addressing Policy.

Dr. Anyars Ibrahim, however, called on Ghanaians to participate and support the flagship project of the Akufo-Addo led-government in fulfilling its promises.

The media was also taken through the process of gathering data of various houses by some trained NABCO personnel in the locality.
