Wassa West District to set up stone quarries

Iduapriem (W/R), Feb. 8, GNA - The Wassa West District Assembly is to set up stone quarries at Tarkwa and Damang.

The Crusher Machines would be installed at Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine and Goldfields Ghana Limited Damang Mine, where waste materials mainly stones would serve as raw material.

Mr Emanuel Kwasi Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive (DCE) said these, when a consultant detailed by the Minister of Local Government, toured Iduapriem Mine site to see the materials that would feed the quarry.

The mine tour would also enable the consultant, Mr Opoku-Gyamfi Boateng to acquaint himself with the conditions here to enable him prepare a good budget proposal for investment.

Mr Ayensu said the Assembly would partner private investors to create job opportunities for the people in the area.

Preceding the tour of the mine was a meeting with the Managing Director of Iduapriem Mine, Mr David Kwesi Renner, who said in setting up the company safety standards of the mine should be complied with. He also mentioned power supply to power the machines and water to suppress the dust as some of the problems that would need immediate attention.

Dr Emmanuel Boakye, Chief Mining Engineer, Iduapriem Mine said there were a lot of waste materials, saying, 27 million tons of waste was dumped last year.

In his remarks, Mr Opoku-Gyamfi Boateng said the project would be viable.
