Sunyani Feb. 3, GNA - A circuit court in Sunyani has sentenced Kofi Tawiah, 32, to seven years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 14 year-old-girl.

He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea. Prosecuting, ASP David Amoako told the court presided by Mr. G. H. K Debrah that the accused posed as a herbalist and approached the victim's mother that he could treat the daughter, an epileptic. The prosecutor said the victim's mother, agreed and the accused charged her 50,000 cedis but she could only pay 40,000 cedis.

ASP David Amoako said the accused treated the girl for sometime but stopped the treatment because the mother had not made any attempt to settle the rest of the money. He said on January 7, this year, the convict later went to the victim's house and invited her to continue with the treatment. The victim obliged and went there but after giving her the medicine, Tawiah lured her and had sexual intercourse with her. He warned her not to tell anybody or she would die.

The Prosecutor said after the act and on her return home, the grandfather of the victim detected a change in her gait as she walked and when questioned, she narrated her ordeal. She was rushed to the hospital where a medical report revealed that her hymen was broken.

Tawiah was arrested and charged with the offence after investigations.
