Sunyani Feb. 2, GNA - A circuit court in Sunyani, presided over by Mr. Kofi Debra, presiding judge, has sentenced a 28 year old farmer to 18 months imprisonment for stealing a pig and a radio speaker on two different occasions at Bechem.

Kwasi Boakye Achiana, described by the judge as a notorious thief pleaded guilty to two counts of stealing and resisting arrest and was sentenced accordingly.

Chief Inspector Joseph Peryugah, prosecutor, told the court that, Mr. Kwadwo Yamoah, caretaker of Madam Ahenkor's pigs sent the animals out to feed at a nearby refuse damp.

He said when the animals returned, the caretaker noticed that one of the pigs was missing and therefore went to the place to search for it.

The prosecutor said during the search two little boys standing by the refuse damp told Yamoah that they saw the accused dragging the animal to his house.

Yamoah quickly went to the accused's house and saw the pig tied there so he reported to the Police.

The prosecutor said when Achiana was arrested and given a police bail, he absconded for about six months until he was again arrested on another stealing case.

Chief Inspector Peryugah stated that the accused on December 31, last year stole a radio speaker from the house of one Owusu Mensah, who had attended an all night prayer session.

On January 28, this year, the complainant saw one Ebenezer Boadi using the stolen speaker and when he was confronted Boadi mentioned the accused's as the one who brought the speaker to him for testing. He said the complainant reported the matter to the Police and the accused was arrested.
