The Police Service has cautioned persons intending to take advantage of a demonstration by the Coalition For Social Justice to foment trouble to reconsider their decision.

The Police in a statement indicated that individuals planning to disrupt the exercise will not be able to do so as the Police Service had devised measures to ensure that the protest is successfully staged.

The group is protesting against the luxury vehicle levy.

Over the past few days, the Vehicle and Assets Dealers Association of Ghana (VADAG) and other associations in the automobile industry have complained about the vehicle levy tax introduced by the government on vehicles.

They contend that the rate of the luxury vehicle tax is negatively affecting their businesses, therefore the need for the planned demonstration dubbed, “Kum Yen Preko”.

They also say the government is not doing much to ensure a stable economy that will support the growth of their businesses.

The Coalition is staging the demonstration despite government’s promise to review the levy.

The tax was introduced in July 2018 with some stakeholders calling for its removal.

The Police Service said it “will secure the routes earmarked for the event and take necessary steps to ensure the security of all demonstrators as well as maintaining law and order for the entire period and beyond.”

“Infiltrators who may want to take advantage of the demonstration to foment trouble are hereby cautioned to reconsider their decision, since the Police will not hesitate in dealing with acts that have the tendency to undermine general public peace and order,” the statement added.

The demonstration will kick off at the Obra Sport, through Kwame Nkrumah Avenue to Farisco Traffic Lights towards COCOBOD Head Office and finally end at Hearts Park where demonstrators will be addressed by their leaders.
