Bolgatanga, Feb. 1 GNA - The Bolgatanga Central Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Anerakima Akapire, on Wednesday urged all party members to ensure that there is unity and peace within the party to enable it to remain vibrant.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Bolgatanga, the Constituency Chairman, stressed that without unity it would be difficult for any party to capture or retain power.

He entreated party members to learn lessons from what was currently occurring in other political parties in the country, leading to defections of some members from those parties. He called on party supporters and members to always preach peace and unity to the rank and file.

He expressed concern over the few seats won by the NPP in the Upper East Region during the last general election, and blamed it on the lack of good rapport between the former Bolgatanga District Chief Executive and the Regional Executives of the Party.

Mr Anerakima announced that his outfit was working assiduously with the Ward and Zonal Chairmen of the NPP to enable the party to win more seats in the Region in the 2008 election.

The Constituency Chairman entreated party members to help educate the masses on the good policies of the NPP Government in order to win more supporters for the party.

Mr Anerakima, who was adjudged the Regional best farmer in 1986 suggested to officials of the World Food Programme to put in place pragmatic strategies that would enable African Countries to produce and store their own food instead of relying on donor agencies in times of crisis.
