Awutu-Beraku (C/R), Jan. 29, GNA - A member of the Awutu Traditional Council, Nai Kwao Korabi Clottey III, has asked Chiefs and Unit Committees to initiate programmes to sensitise their communities on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Nai Kwao-Korabi Cllotey, who is also a Director of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (AESDMHIS), said this was an effective way to ensure that the people embraced the scheme to make it successful.

He noted that it was only when community leaders like Chiefs, Unit, Area, Urban, Town Council and District Assembly Members encouraged their communities to embrace the scheme that they could benefit from it to stay healthy in a less expensive way.

Nai Kwao-Korabi Clottey, who is a Private Medical Practitioner, was addressing some members of Kwao-Korabi community who called on him at Awutu-Beraku at the weekend to discuss the development of the village. He appealed to them to see the sensitisation programme as a collective responsibility and not that of the officials of the scheme alone.

The Scheme is one of the most important government policies designed to bring immeasurable good tidings to both present and future generations, he stated.

Chiefs and other opinion leaders must be deeply involved in its implementation at all levels by assisting in the sensitisation of people so that they would fully embrace it, he added. Nai Kwao-Korabi Clottey appealed to the three traditional councils in the District to come out with special programmes to educate the people on the numerous benefits of the scheme.
