The media airwaves has for sometime been occasioned with rampant and consistent attack of the Electoral Commission (EC) by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Of which all the attacks have been centered and concluded at a "would be rig of elections by the EC in favour of the NPP".
These attacks by the NDC directed at the EC have been observed by the majority to have been provoked by very trivial or least provoking or zero reasons, and has been mostly directed at the leadership of the EC particularly the EC's Chair: Mrs Jeans Mensah and her Deputy: Dr Bossman. And surprisingly, most of the leadership of the NDC who are known to be spearheading this attack are those of the former President John Dramani Mahama's camp who glamorously campaigned for him to be maintained as the 2020 flagbearer of the NDC after he miserably lost the presidential seat to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the 2016 general elections.
It is actually highly impossible for an EC Chair or EC Deputy Chair or a group at the EC to overturn the electoral results of the general elections in the favour of their preferred, and this is because of how polarized, complex and independent-minded the structures handling, monitoring and observing the electoral structures and processes from voter registration to gathering of electoral materials to voting to declaration of results from the polling station levels through to the national level, are.
And the above reasons can be corroborated with facts such as: despite former President Jerry John Rawlings appointed Dr. Afari Djan as the EC chair, he couldn't still rig the elections in favour of the NDC under the leadership of Professor John Atta Mills during the respective 2000 and 2004 general elections, and also the appointment of Mrs Charlotte Osei by former President Mahama still couldn't guarantee him the presidential seat during the crucial 2016 general elections.
In fact, the diverse backgrounds of the permanent and temporal workers of the EC and the involvement of the respective political parties, religious bodies, traditional bodies, Ghanaians, local and foreign Civil Society Organizations (CSO), foreign missions and other stakeholders due to their respective interests, in the electoral processes leading to and during the elections make it apparently not conducive for anyone to rig an election in favour of a particular party or individual.
So clearly, the attack of the EC which has been intentionally and tactically employed by the NDC, particularly those of the camp of John Mahama, and carefully and strategically being executed by them is never wholly about a would be rig by the EC Chair for the NPP, because of the NDC's knowledge that no one can single-handedly rig an election in Ghana for anyone due to their electoral experience since 1992. Apparently, the strategies they are employing are rather for their other self seeking agendas.
In fact, the strategy of John Mahama's Camp of the NDC to create non existent skirmishes between themselves and the EC chair and her deputies is very simple, note, since the chances of a flagbearer of an opposition party to win the presidential seat during the first term of an incumbent is very negligible, they are only using this as a political tactic to help maintain John Mahama for the 2024 flagbearership of the NDC where the real action would be due to the greater chance of a flagbearer of an opposition political party to snatch the presidential seat from an incumbent in Ghana.
So the John Dramani Mahama's Camp of the NDC are only mischievously using the strategy through deceit to prepare the minds of the sympathizers and members of the NDC against the EC of a non existent would be rig by the EC for the NPP, use it as grounds to reject the 2020 general elections results as a rigged one, then use that as a tool to deceive the NDC's entire members that John Mahama didn't lose the election, and finally through that use that as a mechanism to psych up the grassroot of the NDC to get former President John Dramani Mahama reelected as the 2024 NDC flagbearer.
Hhhmm, may God be praised always
