Peace returns to Bolga

Sunyani (B/A) Jan. 20, GNA - Peace and tranquillity now prevails in the municipality, Mr. Isaac Nsoh Amoah, Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive announced in Sunyani on Friday.

He said the Upper East Regional Security had met opinion leaders of the two communities involved in the violence and they had agreed to smoke the peace pipe.

The recent communal violence in the municipality left a 15-year old JSS student dead and 10 others with gunshot wounds. Ten houses were set ablaze. Mr. Amoah was speaking to newsmen when he paid a visit to four victims who had been referred to the regional hospital in Sunyani and wished them speedy recovery.

The four are Amoah Nyaaba, 11, Michael Ayando, 18, Nsor Adango, 21 and Yaw Agambo, 39. They were first taken to the Bolgatanga central hospital after the disturbances but were referred to the orthopaedic section of the regional hospital and are responding to treatment.

The MCE promised to visit the victims again in two weeks' to find out their conditions and presented an unspecified amount of money to support their treatment.

Violence broke out between the youth of two communities, Bukere and Soe in Bolgatanga municipality during which a 15-year-old JSS student was killed and 10 houses set ablaze. The youth engaged in running battles before a combined security personnel intervened. Jan.20
