London branch of the Kumasi Club donates

Kumasi, Jan 17, GNA - The London branch of the Kumasi Club, on Tuesday donated 16 million cedis to the Edwinase Rehabilitation Centre for the Disabled in the Kumasi metropolis towards the improvement of facilities at the centre.

Alhaji Habu Haruna, Managing Director of Zuria FM station in Kumasi and a member of the Kumasi Club, who made the donation on behalf of the London branch of the club, said the club considered the disabled as important members of the society.

He said the club in 2004 donated poly tanks, water closets, pipes and washing basins to the centre in response to an appeal made by the centre for assistance.

Alhaji Haruna stated that this second donation of cash was to support the completion of the project to improve water and sanitation at the centre. He appealed to people with disabilities to take advantage of the vocational courses at the centre and acquire skills to enable them to be self-employed. Mr J.E. Amponsah, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare who received the cash, thanked the club. Mr Modesto Ayiwole, the Centre Manager, said the centre lacked adequate beds, teaching materials, transport, faced feeding problems and appealed to individuals, churches and organizations to assist.
