Let calm prevail in CPP - Atutiga

By GNA

Tamale, Jan 13, GNA - Mr Albert Atutiga, the Northern Regional Chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP), on Friday appealed to members of the party to let peace prevail to ensure that the CPP emerged as a strong and united political force to unseat the NPP in the 2008 elections.

"Many Ghanaians are now waiting for the formation of a formidable Nkrumaist party to serve as an alternative government and therefore wrangling among party members will bring disappointment to the people who are yearning for a change."

He said the merger between the CPP/PNC should now be hastened without conditions and that "Symbols and slogans should not hold them sway".

Mr Atutiga, who was speaking to the GNA in an interview in Tamale, asked members to take a cue from happenings in the NDC and the NPP and stop washing their "dirty linens in public." "Whatever went wrong in the party should be handled in a mature manner".

He said what was important was for members to remain calm, united and stop utterances that would let the party loose some of its members. The Regional Chairman urged members of the party to do away with self-ego, think of the interest of the party and pool resources to work on the grassroots structures for the successful take-off of a winsome party.

Mr Atutiga called on sympathizers of the CPP/PNC to start educating the electorate in their communities as part of their contribution towards winning power in 2008 but "not to sit down and apportion blames to each other for nothing".
