Sam George pins blame on Ghanaians for corrupt Politicians

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency Sam George has blamed “unhealthy demand” from Ghanaians as a major contributory factor as to why some MPs end up being corrupt.

Sam George in a two-part interview with Afia Pokua on the Vim Talk Show last Saturday argued that, “the same people who will call MPs or politicians corrupt are the same ones who make demands on them.”

Sam George, who was previously an IT professional argued that he had a very comfortable life as a private businessman but now spends most of his income on paying school fees, funeral donations, medical bills and taking care of the general welfare of his constituents.

“I used to make a lot of money when I was a private businessman. The money I earned then was mine but now the money I make is for the constituency.”

“You just need to look at former MPs and see the condition in which many of them live because there is an unhealthy demand. How will he take care of your needs,” he quipped.

Having interacted with several of his colleagues MPs across the continent, Sam George argued that, “Ghanaian MPs are one of the worst paid on the African continent” comparing the conditions of service to that of MPs in Liberia.

“With all the war in Liberia, every MP has 13 staff to work with, 8000 USD as their take home salary. Are we poorer than Liberia? We pretend to pay people and people pretend to work,” the MP noted.
