Kufuor commended for a trouble-free Hajj

Agona Swedru, Jan 12, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor has been commended for putting in place an effective Hajj Board making this year's pilgrimage to Mecca trouble-free for by Muslims.

A former Assemblyman for Agona Swedru Old Zongo, Chief Awudu Musah, addressing Muslims at an open prayer to mark this year's Eid-Ul-Adha at Agona Swedru on Tuesday, he said pilgrims who travelled to Mecca did not encounter any difficulty.

Chief Musah who is the head of the Tijaniyya Muslims in the Agona District praised President Kufuor for living up to his assurance to ensure that this year's Hajj was without problems like the previous ones.

He also commended the Hajj Board for working hard to overcome the hitches Muslims making the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia encountered and appealed to it to extend the selection to the districts, regions and rural areas.

Muslim leaders should show appreciation for the efforts of the President and to support the government to make this year's smooth operation a permanent feature, he said.

Chief Musah urged the government to provide adequate resources to Media houses especially the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to intensify education on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for more people especially those in rural areas to register.

He also appealed to Muslims leaders, Chiefs and the people of Dagbon to give peace a chance and to reconcile for late King of the area, Ya Na Yakubu Andani, to be buried to promote development in the Northern Region.

Chief Musah asked political leaders and citizens of the area not to politicise the issue, adding that, the billions of cedis being spent on the security forces deployed in Dagbon could be used to improve infrastructure to raise the living standard of the people.
