Bono Regional Minister, Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi Richardson has handed over 1,191 motorbikes to the Municipal and Districts Assemblies for onward distribution to Assembly members in the three regions such as Bono, Bono East and Ahafo.

In a short ceremony, the Regional Minister said the policy was part of the Local Government measures for Assembly members to reach out to their electorates areas.

She noted that government aim is to source information from the assembly members to the Assemblies on their challenges to be incorporated into the Medium Term Development Plans (MTDPs) of the Assemblies.

"President Akufo-Addo bought into this idea to provide them with a means of transport”, She said.

She added that the president focus is to bring development closer to the people as part of the governance process.

The Minister noted that the motorbikes will ensure efficient and effective service delivery by the Assembly Members.

She indicated that the motorbikes were brought on 8th April, 2019 but the distribution delayed due to the referendum and the creation of new regions.

She debunked rumours that the motorbikes were ex-gratia for the Assembly Members and noted that they were rather meant for development purpose.

The Regional Minister calls on the Assembly Members to use the bike for the intended purpose to accelerate development in their area.

She assured that drastic action will be taken against the Assembly Members who sell the motorbike.

The motorbikes were supplied by the Able Import and Export Ltd and assembled by JORNINAS enterprise. The ‘Dihao’ branded bikes imported from China has 150 horsepower.

The motor bike has media features such as radio, MP3 and Bluetooth. With the media features, the Assembly Members can listen to news as well as entertaining themselves with MP3 and the Bluetooth.

The Certified Engineer Mr Yang Jizehi supervises the assembling of the motorbikes and ensures that both security and media features were working.

On security features, he said the motorbikes come with remote control.
