The Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has increased security in the region following the threat by the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) seeking to declare Western Togoland as an independent state from Ghana.

The Chairman of REGSEC, Dr.Archibald Yao Letsa who disclosed this on Accra based Onua FM said a team of police and military officers have been stationed at strategic points in towns and cities to prevent them from executing their plans.

Report reaching Modern Ghana indicates at least 20 more members of the Volta secession group have been arrested.

The members of the group were arrested on Wednesday, May 8 in a joint police operation in the Volta region.

This follows after the group had held a press briefing calling for the release of their eight members who were arrested by the police on Sunday, and have been arraigned before court.

A statement issued by the police earlier states the eight, led by their chairman, Mr. Charles Kormi Kudzodzi, an octogenarian were in a course of a meeting to finalize arrangements to declare independent Western Togoland.

"Activities of the group also include illegally recruiting and training young people in a "militia-style" for them to form the core of their supposed country's armed forces and police force," according to the statement.

The Police has assured the public they will deal according to law with any person found culpable of wrongdoing and further urged the public to report information on the group, its leaders and members to the police.
