A section of School Uniform dealers at the Juaben Serwaa market in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, have appealed to government to hold on with its decision to introduce a new school uniform for Junior High students in the next academic year.

The implementation of the new policy will collapse their business, they said.

Speaking to a GBC Sunrise Fm correspondent, some of the traders complained if the new policy is rolled out it means parents and student will not buy the old ones which they have already taken stock of.

”We will run at a loss, it will not help; we beg the government. Our children are at university. They should maintain the old one. We voted for you. If you want to win again in 2020, he should reconsider the decision,” Auntie Dorcas, a uniform dealer lamented.

Madam Mavis Yeboah, another clothes and uniforms dealer, begged government and the GES to exercise patience and give them time to sell and clear all their stocks before rolling out the new policy.

According to a parent Madam Afia Dufie, the current difference in uniforms worn by the mission schools helps to easily identify the school a pupil attends and make them traceable should they commit any wrong.

The announcement by government to introduce the new uniform and curricular for JHS students and Kindergarten respectively was met with mixed reactions as some people hailed the decision why others are of the view that introducing new uniforms is not necessary at the moment.

In an earlier interview on the issue on GBC Sunrise Fm’s Morning Show, the deputy minister of Education, Madam Gifty Twum Ampofo explained that the old uniforms will be phased out gradually until all government schools including the mission schools have completely changed to the new one.

She said it is expected to make the students patriotic, among other reasons.
