Tamale, Jan 4, GNA - A 36-years-old Revenue Collector of the Saboba District Assembly on Saturday hastened to death, when he jumped out from the third floor of the Tamale Teaching Hospital and crashed onto the ground.

The deceased, John Awampa was found prostrated in a pool of blood with a deep cut on the upper leg and the right eye, when police got to the scene.

The Public Affairs Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Nana Ekow Yawson, briefing the GNA on the incident said on Saturday at about 1030 hours, one George Atampugre of the Tamale Teaching Hospital reported at the Tamale Police Station and informed the police of the death of the deceased. A dying note signed by him was found in bag by his side. The note indicated that some 10 years ago, Awampa made love with a strange woman, who later became his girl friend. Since that time, a spirit had been disturbing him and he used all his resources to look for a cure through fetish means, which proved unsuccessful. The deceased, from thereon resorted to heavy drinking of alcohol, which compounded his condition.

ASP Yawson said on Saturday that, the deceased was reported sick and was being taking to the Nalerigu Baptist Hospital by his brother, Daniel Awampa for medical treatment. However, when they arrived in Tamale, the deceased told his brother to accompany him to the Tamale Teaching Hospital to see somebody at the fourth floor. At the hospital, the deceased handed out his handbag and money to his brother, when they reached the third floor. Five minutes later, the deceased jumped from the third floor and crashed to the ground.
