New Year School Opens Today

The 57th annual New Year School opens at the University of Ghana, Legon, today.

Some of the participants started arriving yesterday to go through registration formalities at the time the Daily Graphic visited the university's campus.

The School, which is organised by the Institute of Adult Education (IAE) of the University of Ghana, provides a platform for dispassionate discussion of issues of national concern.

About 400 participants are expected to attend this year's school, which is on the theme “Developing the Human Resource for Accelerated National Development”.

The participants will be taken through lectures and symposia on various topics such as “The challenges of Meeting the Millennium Development Goals”, “The educational system in Ghana - A critical analysis”, “Addressing the Brain Drain Syndrome in Ghana”, “Science and Technology for National Development”.

“A Realistic Income and Pension Policy”, “Skills Development and Entrepreneurship for the Information Sector”, “Recognising and Utilising the Capabilities of People with Disability” and “ICT Education for Accelerated National Development.”

The Chairman of the Council of the University of Ghana, Mr Ishmael Yamson, will deliver the keynote address.
