Koforidua, Dec.19, GNA - Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Yaw Adu-Gyimah, Director General, Technical and General Services of the Ghana Police Service on Monday said the 18-month probation for new police personnel begun from the day they passed out from police training schools. He warned that those found to be exhibiting negative activities such as aiding criminals, engaging in corruption and intimidating civilians would be summarily dismissed.
DCP Adu-Gyimah, gave the warning at the passing out parade of 100 Police Recruits at the Koforidua Police Training Depot. He warned the police personnel that, "If their intention of joining the Police Service was to further their criminal tendencies then you are at the wrong place, you will be shown the exit sooner or later." DCP Adu-Gyimah reminded the new officers that their chosen career was challenging and difficult, but assured them that with resilience, tolerance, honesty and good judgement, they could distinguish themselves to win the trust and confidence of the civilian public. He reminded them that they were passing out at a time when they were needed to help fight armed robbery and its allied offences and therefore, urged them to join the Christmas patrols the Police Administration had set in motion.
DCP Adu-Gyimah advised the public to avoid using the new police personnel as debt collectors and settlement of personal scores but rather provide them with useful information that would enhance their performance. He advised the new officers to guard against the HIV/AIDS disease since they would find themselves posted to every part of the country.
