Nkoranza (B/A), Dec. 18, GNA - The Nkoranza District Directorate of Education has launched a week-long programme, aimed at organizing a training workshop for School Management Committees, Parent-Teacher-Associations (PTAs) and Headteachers on the Government's capitation grant to schools.

The programme was to explain how best the grant could be utilized to help bring improvement into the performance standards of pupils in the schools.

Opening one of such workshops at Nkoranza on Friday, Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, District Director of Education, commended the Government for the fee-free education policy and urged members of SMC and PTA to ensure that all school-going children in their communities were enrolled in schools.

Mr Agyemang-Badu said the more the enrolment of children in a school, the more the grants for the school and urged headteachers to sit with their staff to decide on the priority needs of the school, before withdrawing money from the grant.

The District Director deplored the negative practices of some parents, who attacked teachers for disciplining their children or wards and cautioned that his outfit would not take it kindly with any unscrupulous parent, who would harass a teacher in his outfit. Mr Osman Iddirisu, a parent, commended the district directorate for organizing the workshop to sensitise parents and appealed to his colleagues to make maximum use of such education by monitoring the utilization of the grants.
