The family of Beatrice Agyapong, the hairdresser whose lip was bitten off by a jealous lover are unhappy with the police over the delay in prosecuting the case.

Beatrice was attacked at West-Ridge in Takoradi, and her mouth bitten off by one Clara Atemperi who suspected the victim was having an affair with her boyfriend.

Speaking to Citi News, the Western Regional Police Command’s Public Relations Office, DSP Olivia Adiku, defended the Kwesimintsim Police Station's handling of the mouth-biting case adding that she has been regularly assisting the police in their investigations.

She explained that the victim is yet to undertake a second surgery after which investigations will proceed on the assault case.

DSP Olivia Adiku also disclosed that a comprehensive doctor's report will be needed on the state of the victim to aid in the investigations.

“With the Kwesimintim biting incident, the case is still under investigation, Beatrice came back from Korle-Bu last week, the district commander met with the family and according to them, Beatrice has to go for a second surgery. So we need to allow her to go and get the full Doctor's report before the case can be presented in court because she also has to be present in court. So currently Clara the suspect is on police enquiry bail and she's been reporting regularly to the police.”

After a month since the attack, the suspect, Clara Atemperi is still walking free although the victim's family has been to the Kwesimintsim Police Station on different occasions to seek justice.

When Citi News contacted the family on how they are dealing with the fruitless visits to the Kwesimintsim Police Station, they were unwilling to talk as the Police are not happy with them granting interviews to the media.

The 23-year-old health worker, Clara Atimperi, who is alleged to have bitten off the lower lip of a 25-year-old Beatrice Agyapong was granted bail by the Police in January 2019.

The victim, Beatrice Agyapong, went through a quick plastic surgery at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after she was transferred from the Kwesimintim Hospital.

According to the Public Relations Officer for the Western Regional Police Command, DSP Olivia Adiku, the police had to grant the suspect bail as the victim who just underwent surgery in Korle-Bu, is yet to be heard.

He said the accused person will soon be processed for court.

“For now, we've given the police enquiry bail for the accused to be reporting while we wait for the victim to come, then the case can go to court,” DSP Olivia Adiku said.

Background to lip biting incident

Ms. Agyapong, who is a hairdresser at Airport Ridge in Takoradi in narrating her ordeal said she got a lift last Friday on her way to Kwesimintsim to buy food because she knew the driver of the car.

“I was recently treated of ulcer and was advised by doctors to adopt the habit of eating early to avoid complications. So on Friday 18th January 2019 at about 8:00 am, I decided to go to Kwesimintsim to buy food. Just as I stepped out of the house, I saw a private car known to me passing, so I signaled it to a stop asked for a lift to Kwesimintsim so I could find some food to buy.”

She was however attacked by Clara Atimperi who is the driver's girlfriend, as she was getting ready to eat after walking back to the Saloon at the Airport Ridge.

In their exchanges, Clara bit-off the lower lip of Beatrice after hitting her on the head with an object.

“She held my neck and pushed me, and then hit me with an object in the head, before she grabbed my lip and started chewing it as I struggled to defend myself but to no avail. Suddenly I saw my blood splashing on the floor that was the last thing I remember at the salon.
