Kwakwaduam Association of New York has celebrated its 2018 Annual End of Year Dinner Dance over the MLK Weekend, Saturday, 1/19/19 in the Bronx.

The theme for the fundraising was “Enhancing Maternal Care in the Akuapem Region of Ghana – the Obstetric Delivery Kit and Hypertension in Pregnancy Project and was to raise money to buy Obstetric Delivery Kits, Electronic Blood Pressure Machines for effective deliveries and to enhance the quality of work done by midwives in the Akuapem region of Ghana.

Dr. Kwame Aniapam Boafo, a Gynecologist in Albert Einstein Medical College and Consultant to Kwakwaduam launched the Fundraising campaign and amplified the disease burden of our mothers delivering in abject conditions in the villages of Ghana and how the Delivery Kits would enhance the quality of care delivered to our mothers.

He indicated that Hypertension had become the number one killer of our Mothers during Childbirth and needed serious attention.

He indicated that Kwakwaduam had won a Grant and has donated 3000 bottles of Prenatal Vitamins to Pregnant Mothers in Akuapem District

The Chairperson for the occasion was Dr. Ofori Nelson an OB/GYN and Medical Director of Mesquite Women's Center at Nevada, Las Vegas with Professor Georgina Falu of the Falu Foundation, New York as the Co-Chairperson. Dr. Nelson emphasized the predicament of our women during prenatal care and delivery and greatly supported the fundraising initiative. Dr. Falu indicated she was in Ghana and has a Computer Project in Akuapem Mampong to enhance Computer literacy among Market Women.

The outgoing President of the Organization Mr. Mark Saforo said Kwakwaduam continues to do well and thanked all those who have supported the Organization over the years.

He thanked the Outgoing Executive for the great work they had done to sustain the Organization. He enumerated the impressive list of projects undertaken by Kwakwaduam during his reign. He mentioned some Dignitaries at the function – Nana Yaa Boahema I, Nana Perbea – Mampong Hemmea, Ms Florence Torson of Meril Lynch to name a few.

Lawyer Victor Essien, the Resident Lawyer of the Organization, swore in, in a most professional manner the New Executive comprising President – Dr. Stephen Asiedu, Vice President – Michael Ofori, Secretary – Mindy Asiedu, Vice Secretary –Chris Taki, Financial Secretary – Ofei Menako, Assistant Financial Secretary – Emma Fenin, Treasurer – Kwabena Asare, Assistance Treasurer – Kwabena Asante, PRO – Jocelyn Banahene, Organizing Secretary – Abena Yeboa, Assistant Org Secretary – Genevieve Aku Boohene and Chief Whip – Mabel Akosah.

The Incoming President Dr. Asiedu pledged his allegiance to Kwakwaduam and his commitment to take Kwakwaduam to higher heights

Awards were presented to deserving members of the Community and Members of Kwakwaduam. Community Service award went to Mr Eddie Somuah of Prestige Travel. Friends of Kwakwaduam Award to Mr. Joseph Kwasi Boafo of UPS and Kwame Abebrese of Combined Insurance. The President's Award went to Josephine Ofori, Beatrice Frimpong and Mabel Akosa

Despite the threat of heavy snow, the function was well attended, organized and fun filled. The food was excellent and DJ Rockson kept everybody dancing all night. Media activity was provided by Francis Boanoh of FAWEB Solutions, not to mention the MC Patrick Akosah who was electrifying as always.
