Sagnarigu Constituency Likely To Field A Woman For 2020 Elections

The Sagnarigu Constituency was created out of the current Tamale North constituency prior to the 2012 elections.

The constituency has seen a revolution in its name as it was initially part of the Choggu -Tishigu constituency and later part of the Tamale North constituency and now stands on its own.

The constituency is one of the four constituencies in Tamale but falls under the Sagnarigu Municipality.

It has always been won by the NDC since its creation.

In 2012, the year it was created, Alhaji Alhassan Bashir Fuseini of the NDC pulled 29,508 of the votes to beat Yakubu Abdul -Kareem of the NPP who had 6,935 of the votes.

Alhaji Alhassan Bashir Fuseini retained the seat again for the NDC in the 2016 elections by securing 26,898 of the votes to beat Habib Iddrisu of the NPP who had 7,888 of the votes.

Election researchers say that the the population of female voters in the constituency is high and it is suggested that the NPP should field a woman in the constituency in election 2020 to see how things will go.

One woman who is currently visible and active in the constituency and has expressed interest to contest the NPP primaries in the Sagnarigu constituency is Madam Fawzia Abu. She is an Assistant Registrar at the ICT directorate of the Tamale Technical University and also the Chief Executive Officer of OsFawzy Cosmetics in Tamale. She holds an MBA in International Business Administration in Human Resource Management from the Paris Graduate School of Management.

She is currently the polling station Women's Organiser for Tamasco AA polling station of the Sagnarigu constituency.

She was once the Women's Organizer of TESCON at the then Tamale Polytechnic from 2002 to 2004 during which time she contributed greatly in creating awareness of the policies and programmes of the NPP in the area.

She is currently one of the members of the Council of Elders of the NPP at the Tamale Technical University where she, alongside others, provides direction and inspiration to the TESCON of the University.

She is also the Organiser of the National Association of Patrons of the TESCON.

Madam Fawzia Abu is generally touted to be accessible and helpful to all those who come her way.

She has high compassion for the needy and also a strong crusader of issues relating to women in the Sagnarigu constituency and beyond.

It is anticipated that when she is elected as the candidate of the NPP in the Sagnarigu constituency, it will impact positively on the fortunes of the NPP in the area.

There are therefore calls and appeals to the electorates of the Sagnarigu constituency to vote for her at primaries.
