Widows mourn their late husbands and not perform the duties of a legislator ~ Former NUGS President

Widows mourn their late husbands and not perform the duties of a legislator Former NUGS President
24.01.2019 LISTEN

A former NUGS President, Amoakohene Frank has expressed disappointment in the campaign message and style of supporters of Maa Lydia, NPP's Parliamentary Candidate for the Ayawaso West Wougon By- Election.

This follows an event, Good evening Ghana held by metro TV between the University of Ghana TEIN and Tescon students.

In a Facebook post, the former President described as worrying and not enough to send someone to Parliament just because she is arguably a "widow".

Mr Amoakohene further challenged the NPP to move beyond the sympathy campaign and however tell constituents how she can offer to the debate in Parliament and ensure the economic progress of the people of Ayawaso West.

Below is a message of the full post on his facebook wall:

The difference was clear on Good evening Ghana!
The debate was elevated beyond the pedestrian approach to politicking.

The TEIN was able to tell specifically what the NDC and Brempong have for AWW whiles their counterparts of course were only interested in chanting slogans.

Aside the sympathy campaign, I wished the TESCON reps could tell viewers how AWW would see development after voting their candidate.

It is not only enough to send someone to Parliament just because she is arguably a "widow".

Widows mourn their late husbands and not perform the duties of a legislator.

Therefore if any widow wishes to do otherwise, the onus rests on the individual to tell the electorate how she's going to add to the conversations in Parliament and seek for the development of her constituents.

The politics in Ghana today has risen beyond sympathy and trivialities and in fact, this would be affirmed by the intellectual community come 31st January, 2019 in the By-Election.

I was happy for one thing that throughout the conversations, the TEIN was able to point to key developments their AWW has seen under NDC (including the University of Ghana Hospital) of which the TESCON counterparts could not account for even a single item for their wasteful 22 year reign in the AWW.

Indeed with the heart of intellectualism and in the quest of setting the pace for a new path of politics in Ghana, I am more than convinced that AWW would rise to the occasion and demand for accountability by rejecting the NPP and its candidate and vote for #Brempong.

Congratulations to the team!
