Alkians Aid, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), with support from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has embarked on a free health insurance registration exercise for residents of Santa Maria, a suburb of Accra.

All persons, including the physically challenged, children below the age of 16 and persons above 70 years were eligible for the registration exercise.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alkians Aid Group, Nelson Kissi Ansong, stated that the partnership between Alkians Aid and the NHIS “to provide free health insurance registration in the community will offer some healthcare relief to its mostly working-class residents.”

He urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the exercise to improve on their healthcare and called on other benevolent organisations and humanitarians to also consider helping the needy in the society.

Some beneficiaries could not hide their joy over the exercise and eulogised the members of Alkians Aid Group for bringing healthcare closer to them.

“We are very grateful; we thank everybody who came here to support us, since we have our NHIS we can now visit any hospital any time we are not feeling fine,” they pointed out.

The initiative was made possible by some partners from corporate Ghana.
