Atwima receives ten television sets for Distance Education

Nkawie, (Ash), Nov. 29, GNA - The Ministry of Education and Sports has donated 10 colour television sets worth over 20 million cedis to the Atwima Nwabiagya District Education Directorate to promote the Distance learning Education programme. Eight schools have been identified and designated as cluster centres for 27 schools to converge there for the learning programme. They are Nkawie, Toase, Abuakwah, Asenemaso, Asuofua, Adankwame, Achiase and Barekese.

Mr. Thomas Ofori-Donkor, The Atwima Nwabiagya District Chief Executive who made the presentation at Nkawie on Monday said, the items formed part of government's policy to encourage the use of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) to promote quality education in the country.

To achieve this objective, he said, adequate television sets would be supplied to the Basic schools and solar energy provided in the rural areas without electricity, to facilitate the distance learning education programme.

Mr. Ofori-Donkor asked the teachers to desist from acts that turn to impugn on the image and integrity of the profession and lead lives worthy of emulation.

Mr. Eddy Obeng-Darko, the District Director of Education, who received the television sets, asked the schools not to use them solely for entertainment programmes.

He advised the teachers to take proper care of the items and make judicious use of them to benefit the pupils. Mr. Obeng-Darko, later handed-over the television sets to the Head Teachers, School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher-Associations (PTAs) who collected them on behalf of the school communities.
