Ahmeds Death: GUNA Urges Police to Depeen Investigations
21.01.2019 LISTEN

Ghana United Nations Association (GUNA) is calling on government to improve on the security of the country and put a stop to contract killings.

In a release issued Monday and signed by the Director of Administration, Bishop Nathaniel Rudolph, GUNA said “the lack of security for citizens spells doom for all other sectors of the economy including, education, trade, medicine and even religion.”

This call comes after investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale, was shot three times, twice in the chest and once in the neck last Wednesday at Madina in Accra. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The late Hussein-Suale was part of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI team that produced the expose “#Number12” documentary, which exposed corruption in Ghanaian football.

His death, however, has been linked to the Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region, Kennedy Agyapong, after he published photos of the slain journalist on his television network, NET 2TV and incited violence against the investigator.

However, his death is not the only contract killing recorded in January.

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) Public Relations Manager, Josephine Asante, was stabbed to death in her house.

Madam Asante is alleged to have been attacked in her bedroom soon after she returned from a party Saturday night.

GUNA stated, “Ghana has won an international reputation as one of the most peaceful countries in the world and it is important all governments ensure the maintenance of the peace and security of Ghana.”

GUNA further appealed to international security bodies to investigate independently into the killings to help expose the people behind the killings.

The Ghana United Nations Association (GUNA) has observed with great concern the worsening security situation in the country. It is important to know that, security is the fundamental and basic necessity of any progressive society, hence the lack of security for citizens spells doom for all other sectors of the economy including, education, trade, medicine and even religion.

GUNA, therefore, calls on the government to as a matter of urgency improve the security architecture of the country in order to stop the contract killings with investigative Journalist Mohammed Hussein-Suale becoming the latest victim.

Moreover, GUNA calls on the government to investigate these barbaric actions and bring all those connected to these killings to book in order to deflate the bravado of these wicked people who go about endangering the lives and property of law-abiding citizens. Ghana has won an international reputation as one of the most peaceful countries in the world and it is important all governments ensure the maintenance of the peace and security of Ghana.

GUNA also appeals to all the international security bodies including the United Nations (UN) to take interest in these matters by initiating independent investigations into these killings to unmask the wicked people behind these killings.

Finally, we call on the government to make security a priority by ensuring that all street lights are restored to illuminate and improve the security of our communities and additionally, priority should be given to the installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras on all major roads in Ghana to facilitate the arrest of criminals and lawless cowards who should be cooling off behind iron bars.

Thank you

Signed

Bishop Nathaniel Rudolph

(Director of Administration)
