Blood-Sucking Police Service Enquiry Should Be Reformational And Productive
21.01.2019 LISTEN

POLICE SERVICE enquiries are real and critical so police officers billed for service enquiry must also be very real and critical in all situations pertaining to service enquiries. One should not leave chances when it comes to service enquiry because it is a battle for survival in the police so it's got to be approached with all the seriousness it deserves.

Never leave your fate in the hands of those scavengers and vampires whose interest is to stall your progress as a police officer. Don't give them the pleasure to intimidate and frustrate you at all. Service enquiry is where you will have to activate all your arsenals for defense and if possible rope in all the vampires who are seeking to suck your blood under the prextet of instilling disciple in the police service.

It is not a place to respect rank and personalities. Not at all. It is a place where all rules of evidence are supposed to be engaged and applied accordingly. It is a place where those who are alleging must be made to prove beyond all reasonable doubts to make their case. Unfortunately, that is where many police officers lose it completely only to wake up one day and realise that dismissal letter has been handed over to them go home.

Police service is such that at times those who deserve to be made to go through service and possibly be dismissed for their gross misconducts are rather left off the hook because of their political affiliations and colours. Aside those who have immuned themselves with politics in the police, the next group of people who misbehave a lot and drag the name of the police service into serious disreputes are the relatives and favorites of high ranking senior police officers.

The very people with some being very high ranking senior officers in the police service who condone and connive with indiscipline in the police service are the ones who usually trigger unreasonable service enquiries against some poor and innocent police officers for all vindictiveness and victimising reasons. They shield their favourites and relatives no matter how grossly they misconduct themselves and pretend to instill disciplines in others through service enquiries.

The biggest fear for most police officers is the fear to be dismissed from the police service. Due to the fear of being dismissed unfairly and unjustifiably at times, police officers are constantly under fear and panic in discharging their duties but the fact remains that, it is not easy to dismiss police officers. It's a whole legal battle on its own and sometimes, the power to dismiss a police officer lies beyond the police administration.

Not even the president of Ghana can give express instructions for a police officer to be dismissed arbitrary and unitary from the police service. That can never happen in this democratic dispensation of ours and under the 1992 republican constitution of Ghana. This is the reason why police officers must perform their duties without fear or favour.

Before a police officer is shown the exit from the police service, he or she must be taken through a service enquiry and be proven beyond all reasonable doubts that indeed, that police officer is guilty of charges of misconducts leveled against him or her. Even that, the police officer has the right to resort to courts of competent jurisdictions to challenge the outcome or result of the service enquiry. In fact, he or she has all the way up to Supreme Court to challenge the decision of the central disciplinary board if not satisfied.

Service enquiries have become BLOOD-SUCKING Kangaroo Courts where the vampires in the police service get the opportunity to drain blood of vulnerable police officers. Many police officers do not survive the frustrations they go through during service enquiry. The stress that comes with it is one that many police officers lack the exact words to describe their experience as far as service inquiry is concerned. It's no joke.

The police service is not for anybody so do not allow people to push you out when you are not ready to go through service enquiries that come through acts of vindictiveness and victimisations . The police service is for mother Ghana and everybody you see in the police uniform right from the IGP to last constable yet to be recruited is only privileged to be in the police service a time being. We will all leave someday whether we like it or not.

Services enquiries are supposed to be conducted to instill sense of discipline and professionalism in police officers and make them effective, efficient and productive on the job. It is supposed to be used to transform police officers and awake their professional senses in order for them to maintain high professional and disciplinary standards in discharging their duties going forward. Unfortunately, how service enquiries are conducted leave a lot be desired. If there is a medium which has been used to unfairly and unjustifiably dismiss police officers, it is the "monstrous animal" call service enquiry. It has been used as a suppressive and oppressive tool to intimidate subordinate officers with constant threats of dismissal.

As a police officer, you must always struggle to maintain high standards of professionalism and discipline in discharging your duties to avoid unnecessary service enquiries and it related proceedings. Try your maximum and possible best to stay above unprofessional conducts which are likely to land you in a service enquiry or disciplinary proceedings. Discipline is the hallmark of policing and therefore no one should under estimate and undermine service enquiries or disciplinary proceedings and its intended purposes. We should uphold it if it is meant to truly correct and transform police officers instead of destroying them based on the whims and caprices of the vampires and scavengers in the police service.

In event that gross misconducts of the police officers should lead to dismissal, such police officers billed for service enquiries must be handled with extra care. They need pre-counselling sessions with specialised clinical psychologists to prepare them before taking them through service enquiries. They should not be treated like outcasts but rather people who should be maintained and sustained psychologically and emotionally.

Again, after the service enquiries, such police officers should be put under strict monitoring to avoid attempts of suicide since the fear of being dismissed from the police service comes with a lot of psychological stress, mental and emotional instabilities. Unfortunately such police officers are sometimes marched before their district or unit commanders and a dismissal letter is handed over to them to go home unexpectedly.

Most of these guys leave the police service with so much hatred and pains in their hearts. The current trend indicates that majority of them are turning into hardened criminals with expert operation in the AK47 assault riffle. People who are supposed to protect lives and properties are now destroying lives and properties due to frustrations they went through in the police service and how some of them were unjustifiably and unfairly treated. They join gangs of armed robbers to kill police officers for revenge.

Sadly, they don't kill those who cause their dismissal unfairly and unjustifiably from the police but rather some innocent police officers somewhere who never had anything to do with the unfair and unjust treatments meted out them. They stray their bullets the innocent police officers instead.

Police service enquiries should be reformative and productive devoid of acts of vindictiveness and victimizations from the vampires. Service enquiries must serve its intended purpose of instill disciple on the police service through fairness and equity.
