The winners of the Accra International Book Festival's (AIBF) 2018 First Book Award and Independent Writer’s Awards have been announced. Poetry book, Haiku Rhapsodies (verses from Ghana) by Celestine Nudanu (Ghana) has won the coveted First Book Award.

Also, the Book of Addis: Cradled Embers by Brooke C. Obie (U.S.A) was adjudged the winner in the Independent Writer’s Award category.

"Huge congratulations to the winners and everyone who participated, or entered the competition last year," a statement issued by said.

The AIBF Literary Awards recognises works by writers with the potency to shape the mindset of the world for good. Both published and unpublished works are accepted.

The 2019 competition opens to submissions on Friday, March 1. The submission requirements will be published to guide interested applicants.

The Accra International Book Festival is a nonprofit charitable organisation established to foster a love of books, reading and writing among Ghanaians of all backgrounds and ages.

The AIBF achieves this objective through informative workshops, and lively author events aim to inspire and educate the reading public.

The 2nd Accra International Book Festival (AIBF) will take place from October 24 - 27, 2019 at the University of Ghana, Legon.
