The United States’ mission to Ghana has condemned the murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale on Wednesday night, describing it as an attack on press freedom.

A Twitter post by the US Embassy on Friday said, the murder is “not only an attack on Suale, but on Ghana’s climate of transparency, democratic credibility, and press freedom.”

The undercover man who worked with Tiger Eye PI was shot twice in the chest and once in the neck while driving at Madina a suburb of the capital, Accra.

Police say they have commenced investigations into the matter and they have called on persons who have any information that will help in the investigations to volunteer same.

Eyewitnesses say the assailants bolted on a motorbike after the attack.

Some civil society organisations and individuals have pointed figures at the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, accusing him of compromising the safety of Ahmed.

The Parliamentarian, in 2018 shared pictures of the deceased on his TV network and accused him of being a bad boy and said if Ahmed comes to the premises he should be beaten.

Mr. Agyapong has disassociated himself from the murder and called on the police to investigate award-winning investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas who is the leader of the Tiger Eye PI team.

The legislator has constantly criticized the methods adopted by the undercover team to gather their evidence.

CSO’s and several Ghanaians took to social media to express shock at the murder.
