DR Congo election results: Who's saying what?

The outcome of the presidential election in Democratic Republic of Congo lies in the hands of the Constitutional Court, where the declared runner-up Martin Fayulu has filed an appeal.

Here are the figures which lie at the heart of his claim:

Election board

On January 10, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) issued provisional results giving victory to opposition leader Felix Tshisekedi with 38.57 percent of the vote, followed by rival opposition candidate Fayulu with 34.8 percent.

In a distant third place came hardline former interior minister Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary, backed by outgoing President Joseph Kabila, with 23 percent

Fayulu has appealed to the Constitutional Court in the hope of forcing a manual recount.

He claims to have won 61 percent of the votes on December 30, compared to 18 percent each for the other two main candidates.

Researchers

The Congo Research Group (CRG) at the University of New York says it acquired, through a whistle-blower, the count of 86 percent of the vote as recorded on CENI's central data base.

It also says it has obtained the count of 43 percent of the vote, as monitored by 40,000 observers deployed on polling day by CENCO, the influential Catholic Church's episcopal conference.

Comparisons of the two documents "suggest that Martin Fayulu won the elections by a wide margin," the CRG says.

The leaked CENI figures give Fayulu 59.42 percent, followed by Tshisekedi on 18.97 percent and Shadary 18.54 percent.

The CENCO figures give 62.8 percent to Fayulu, 15 percent to Tshisekedi and 17.99 percent to Shadary.

The CRG acknowledges that the data came into its possession via aides to Fayulu.
