Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly Trains Staff To Distribute Waste Bins To Households

The Ayawaso north municipal assembly has undertaken a training program for its members to effectively distribute waste bins to households within the assembly to help store and collect those waste that finds its way onto the streets, drains and other public places due to lack of waste receptacles.

The exercise which is targeted at achieving the president’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in the sub-region is also in line with the enforcement of the Assembly’s bye-law which mandates every household to store waste in a prescribed waste container.

The training exercise was organized for assembly members, NABCO officers at the assembly, national service persons among others who will help enforce this initiative.

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ayawaso North Municipality, Hon. Mohammed Zachari Aminu, who was at the event in an interview indicated that the assembly will enforce its bye-laws on sanitation to ensure that the municipality becomes very clean.

He said the assembly will provide the waste bins for free to the various households but monthly waste collection fees will be charged and the waste will be collected by the approved waste management service providers within the municipality.

He urged residents to comply with the initiative to help create a healthy environment devoid of filth.

The Bin distribution project coordinator, Mr. Lawrence Laryae in an interview also explained that the project seeks to distribute 1 million bins to household to ensure proper storage and collection of solid waste at household level across the country.

He said a special technological feature known as RFID will be tagged unto the bins to ensure effective monitoring for efficient service delivery by the various waste management service providers.

The President, H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akufo- Addo in a statement indicated that “The commitment I want to make, and for all of us to make, is that by the end of my term in office, Accra will be the cleanest city on the entire African continent. That is the commitment I am making to you”.

The various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the nation are gearing up to deploy the “One household, one waste bin” solution as a means towards achieving the President’s commitment of keeping the country clean.
