Thanks to the Ghana media. Many provide interesting articles, including entertainment for readers’ comfort. How interesting and entertaining to read about one of Ghana’s film stars who prefer to be called Don Little?

Like many successful Hollywood actresses and actors that experienced childhood difficulties and neglect, Don Little also has a sad story which he has shared on videos and interviews. I was deeply emotionally touched and almost shed tears after listening to some of his interviews.

Even in the developed world, disabled children are at risk of abuse and neglect, let alone Africa, a continent with diverse difficulties, plagued by corruption, poverty, lack of education, and outdated bizarre superstitions, deeply rooted in the mind of many to consider a child born with a disability or biological problems a bad luck.

Confused parents curse their fate or the day and hour when an invalid child is born because superstitious beliefs portray such children with deformity or strange feature as children under a curse in the family.

Imagine, in rural areas in southeast Madagascar, twins are considered curse which brings evil to the family and the surrounding community. How can illiteracy change the mind of people to be such superstitious?

In some cases, handicapped children are badly treated or maltreated throughout their lives, while others neglected or abandoned in foster care institutions.

According to one of the videos, Don Little claims was in a center of two names bearing Stephen Ofosu, because of the man who took care of him. Then after seeing his parents, replaced Ofosu with Atanga.

After watching most of his videos; I can clearly see the injustice his parents have done to this young man. He is very respectful, brilliant and witty. He would have become a distinguished person in society if his parents had given him a better education.

Despite all the childhood denial, I was impressed with his English. His utterances, even though are comical, were full of wisdom intertwined with proverbs. It wouldn't surprise me if he plays the role of a powerful orator in a king’s palace.

On Adom online, I read that the actor once contemplated about committing suicide due to his height or smallish figure. Thank God, he made a wise decision to see his benefit in the society today. In most of his interviews, he either praised some who help build his career as ‘Funny Face,’ or continuously giving praises to the almighty God.

At a point, he has to explain why he likes mentioning God’s name, saying he was nobody, even his own parents neglected him but through the power of God ‘Funny Face,’ has given him the recognition he deserves in the film industry. His story is intriguing, and entertaining but touching.

I wish parents who often neglect their children will learn something significant in this sad but inspiring story of Don Little. In fact, Mr. Stephen Atanga has a very bright future and has more to offer to take Ghanaians film on the international screen.

His story will definitely inspire many people born with disabilities who think they have nothing to offer in this world.
