The Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ) is said to sponsor two of its members to participate in a Bloomberg Media initiative African training programme for financial journalists in Accra.

Although the Institute is supposed to support at least four of its members shortlisted to participate in the Bloomberg training programme, only two names have so far been released.

In a release signed by Naa Torshie Torto, Project Manager of IFEJ and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Wednesday, mentioned Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh of the African Eye Report and Francis Kobena Tandoh of the Xinhua News Agency as participants in the 19-day programme over a six month period.

The statement said the training would begin on January 14 at the University of Ghana Business School with each block taking over three to four full lecture days.

The launch of the programme would welcome 50 delegates into the first intake, drawn from media houses, development organisations and government agencies, it said.

The statement said the Bloomberg financial journalism training is an interactive, hands-on programme, firmly rooted in the African realities and aimed at equipping financial journalists to serve the public interest as a critical part of continental development and progress.

During the six-month programme, participants would be granted free subscription to the Bloomberg Professional Service, adding that, the subscription would give the participants free access to the world-class analytics, key industry data, market moving news and analysis that the Bloomberg Professional Service provided.

The Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ) was formed in 1990 to help develop the skills of journalists in business and financial reporting.

One of the objectives of the institute is to advance the study, development and application of improved financial and economic communication methods through appropriate hands-on approaches and platforms.
