34 PWD's At Abuakwa South Supported

The Abuakwa South Municipal Assembly has presented various equipment to 34 Persons with Disability (PWDs) to empower them improve their livelihood. The items which cost GH¢48,000.00 included laptops and desktop computers, deep freezers, gas burner and cylinder and a tomatoes grinding machine.

Others are knitting machines, presser machine dryer, electric foot machine, electronic tools, Knasap and motorized spraying machines, battery charging machine and wheel chairs.

Addressing the beneficiaries at a presentation ceremony, Mrs Vera Akuffo-Mante, the Abuakwa South Municipal Coordinating Director, said the assembly has already presented some of the items to 102 PWD's.

She said as part of the support, the school fees of 17 of the PWD's have been paid, whiles, the medication bills of seven of them have been catered for.

Mrs Akuffo-Mante said the second batch of 24 beneficiaries who requested for containers and other equipment are under construction and when completed will be delivered to them.

She urged the beneficiaries to use the items for the specific purpose for which they made the request, so that government would be assured that the support is yielding the desired results.

Mrs Akuffo-Mante said the committee responsible for the disbursement of funds to the PWD's in the municipality is looking for entrepreneurial PWDs to resource adequately so that they could also employ other PWD's.

This, she said, would help reduce the unemployment among the PWD's in the municipality and minimize their over dependence on the disability fund.

Mr Stephen Ocansey, the Abuakwa South Chairman of the Ghana Federation of Disables, urged his colleagues to make the best use of the items given them.
