Mentor others to take after you - Dr Boadi Nyamekye

Mentor others to take after you - Dr Boadi Nyamekye

Dr Michael Boadi Nyamekye, the General Overseer of The Maker's House Chapel International (TMHCI) has urged Ghanaian leaders to nurture people who would continue with their legacies when they are done with service.

He said the situation where leaders in various facets of life felt insecure and thus threatened by the potentials of budding stars was a generational problem, which must be solved for achievements to be built upon and sustained.

He was delivering a sermon on the theme, 'The Recovery Road', based on 1 Samuel 30:18, at a grand service at the Destiny House Arena, the Church's headquarters at Kwabenya, in the Ga East District.

Dr Boadi Nyamekye said it was erroneous for any leader to think that his position was for perpetuity and thereby 'throw javelins' at those who were genuinely assisting them but had the potentials to succeed them.

Using the example of King Saul, who wanted to eliminate David after he had killed Israel's giant enemy, Goliath, Dr Boadi Nyamekye said every leader must recognise that the sky was big enough to accommodate the flight of many eagles.

He, however, condemned the attitude on mentees who tended to betray their mentors, especially when they encountered challenges, saying some followers would only hang around to benefit from the success, while it lasted.

Leaders, he said, should not be discouraged when such people deserted them because their negative tendencies did not help the cause of progress and accomplishments.

On the relevance of theme to the lives of Christians, Dr Boadi Nyamekye said during their moments of trials and tribulations, they needed to firstly, encourage themselves in the Lord before seeking His direction just as David did when the Amalekites raided Ziklag and took the women and everyone captive.

'When this happened, David faced dissension from his followers, who, indeed, wanted to stone him; but David encouraged himself in the Lord and then inquired of Him whether he should pursue the raiders or not,' he said.

'It is instructive that when David submitted his road to recovery to the Lord, he was able to recover all that he had lost, including his two wives. We are bound to make mistakes when we detract from the course of the Lord, but when we return we will recover everything we have lost'.
