The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has held its 2018 Town Hall Meeting at the Church of Pentecost auditorium in Bidieso a suburb of Obuasi.

The programme which took place on Friday, December 21, 2018 had Chiefs, members of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), representative of the Garages Association, Private Schools Association, Market Queens, various Disability groups, Farmers Association, Heads of Institutions and Departments all present.

Speaking at the forum organized by the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, the Regional Information Officer Nana Akrasi Sarpong who represented the Minister of Information assured the people of Government’s commitment to fulfilling its major campaign promises.

On government’s flagship programme in Education, the Free Senior High School, he said Government has laid down measures to strengthen the policy in the coming years to make it more effective and very much attractive.

He then touched on the Planting for Food and Jobs programme in the Agricultural sector and urged the general public to take full advantage of the policy which he said is already creating job opportunities for many youths across the length and breadth of the country. The Regional Information Officer also revealed that Government through the Fertilizer subsidy program is making available the needed farming inputs such as fertilizers and quality seedlings to farmers to enable them to farm on large scales to boost productivity and make payment after harvest.

He appealed to the general public to support the Government in its resolve to improve the lives of the people in the country.

There were presentations by the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Regina Teni Musah Mummuni on Government’s intervention policies in the Educational sector. She gave updates on the Free Senior High school and the double track system. She said the programme has been very successful.

The Municipal Director, Municipal of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Augustine Antwi praised the government for the Planting for Food and Jobs programme. He said the programme has contributed to the bumper harvest we have witnessed this year. He said currently, the NABCO personnel posted to the MOFA office have prepared 60000 citrus and 50000 oil palm seedlings at Mamiriwa to be given free of charge to farmers in the Municipality as part of Obuasi’s share of the One District One Factory policy of Government.

There were also presentations by the Ashanti Regional Director of the Ministry of Trade and Industries, Mr. Mamuda Osman and Mr. Kelvin Ofori Atta on Government’s One District One Factory policy and Government’s support to Small and Medium Enterprises in the Municipality respectively.

On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi, Honorable Elijah Adansi- Bonah in a power point presentation , took participants through the various projects the Asseembly has undertaken during his term of office, he mentioned the Bossman bridge ( in the Obuasi East District now), dredging of Hwiaseamo River, Completion of the First Phase of Kokoteasua MA school, Completion of Binsere school, the MCE Bungalow fence wall, Renovation of Presby Primary School at JJ, Reshaping of Binsere And Mamiriwa Roads, the Ongoing construction of Diawuoso CHPS Compound, the Mampamhwe CHPS Compound , the Completion of Ntonsua CHPS Compound among others.

Speaking with the media on the sidelines of the programme, Honorable Elijah Adansi- Bonah talked about the security situation in the Municipality. He said, he has already met with the Municipal Security Council to strategize on ways to combat crime in the Municipality. This, he said, is in reaction to reported issues of armed robbery attacks on Ntonsua road, recent attacks at drinking bars and spots and issues with Small scale miners in the Municipality. He assured the people of Obuasi of an incident free Christmas.

He praised the Ministry of Information for instituting the TOWN HALL MEETING. He said, it provides the platform for leaders who have been entrusted with the mandate of the people to account for their stewardship, engage and interact with their people.
