DEC 30, 2018 LISTEN

It was all pomp and pageantry at Tangni, a farming community in the Tamale South constituency as it was their turn to hear the Haruna Iddrisu’s version of the biblical Genesis 1:3. There was rich cultural display exhibited in a form of dancing by young men and women and the elderly. The most spectacular sight to behold was however the waist-twisting dance by young women from which the clanging of their waist beads echoed beyond the precincts of Tamale South.

About 4.30 pm on December 28, Tangni was besieged with people from surrounding communities especially Jarigu to share in the glory of the final victory against darkness under the auspices of their servant Hon. Haruna Iddrisu.

The programme was well-attended by the crème de la crème: chiefs of villages abutting Tangni, distinguished MPs from the Northern Caucus, indefatigable Tamale South constituency executives, some present and past regional executives notably Chairman Alhaji Ibrahim Mobilla, opinion leaders, friends and the media.

Hon. Alhassan Mumuni, MP for Salaga North was given the spotlight to speak and he thrilled the crowd into euphoria. He extolled the "gubernatorial" prowess of the Tamale South legislator especially his ability to get things done by abracadabra. He urged the constituents of Tamale South to never let go of their MP lest they would lag behind in development. He said he had wished he had the Midas touch of their parliamentarian.

The Northern Regional Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Mobilla charged the crowd. He told supporters who were at the event to come out in their numbers in 2020 to drive the elephant government into wilderness. He told the people of Tangni that the next development drive by the MP was to improve on the road networks in the constituency.

The baton was finally handed to the minority leader and MP by the Master of Ceremonies who doubles as the CEO of Haruna Institute, Abdul Ganiyu Sandow. Hon. Haruna Iddrisu’s preliminary comments were to thank the people of Tangni and all his constituents for giving him the opportunity to serve as their servant in the august house of parliament.

The minority leader said the NPP government was engaged in lies peddling and sloganeering. He intimated that Bawumia who in opposition claimed he had the magic wand to turn our economic fortunes and reduce our debts to GDP ratio has lost focus and his government has borrowed to a tune of “over GHc124 billion cedis”. “Dr Bawumia is practically holding a calabash in hand begging for alms”, the MP observed. He said the government should cut the charade and focus on the high increase on unemployment and the failure to honour the allowances promised teacher and nurse trainees whilst in opposition.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu also made a big announcement at the event. He told the people that he was still interested in contesting in the upcoming NDC primaries slated to April 2019 to represent the people in the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic. He told the media around to discount stories tying him to higher order ambitions for 2020. He said he was interested in whipping up votes to beat the 2016 record with the support of the party chairman of the constituency.

The MP also presented seven sewing machines to some young women who have learnt sewing and were scheduled for passing out ceremony over the weekend.

The minority leader ended his speech with gratitude to all of the henchmen who helped in achieving a 100% provision of electricity to all communities in his constituency.

The MP after the speech was walked to the community’s sub-transformer where he proclaimed “Let there be light” as it is scripted in Genesis 3:1. He pushed the switch and the lights of smiles from the faces of the people brighten everywhere.
